Smart Cities Network launch

Last July, several organisations signed a protocol to create the Smart Cities Portugal network, which will promote an integrated platform of companies in areas such as energy, sustainable construction, ICT and mobility.

The aim is to contribute to the promotion and competitiveness of the territories, city by city. According to a statement issued by Inteli, the project’s coordinator, the creation of this network ‘is a step towards enhancing the RENER network of cities, coordinated by Inteli’.

The organisation will take on the role of managing body, liaising with the municipalities that are part of the RENER network and those that want to join the platform in the meantime. It also comes in the strategic context of the European Union’s next financial programming framework.

According to Inteli, it provides for the ‘creation of integrated, multidisciplinary interventions that generate added value with benefits for the internal and external markets’.

The various organisations that have already signed the protocol are Inteli, the PCTE association (Energy Competitiveness and Technology Hub), CEIIA (managing body of the Mobility Industries Competitiveness and Technology Hub), Tice.pt (Information, Communication and Electronics Technologies Competitiveness Hub) and the Sustainable Construction Platform association (Cluster Habitat Sustentável). Indra, IBM, Siemens and Caixa Geral de Depósitos.
