CMM

A CMM – Portuguese Steelwork Association, was created in 1997.

It is a non-profit association and its main objective is the technical promotion in the field of Steel construction.

This association was created with the objective of joining together all those who are interested in Steel and composite construction and promoting among them scientific and technological knowledge. Ever since it was created CMM has grown and has nowadays more than 450 Associate Members, 80 of which are corporate Members such as steelwork contractors, engineering offices and institutes of education and research.

Photo of teachers and students of the training course: Sustainable Construction. construction, CMM highlights one of the features of Steel which is the sustainability of this material, known to be infinitely recyclable. In this context CMM participates actively in the Technical Committee 171 – Sustainability in Buildings.

It was created in 2007 in the light of Standardization activities for evaluation and communication of sustainability in buildings, considering its performance during its life cycle. This TC follows up and participates in the works that are developed in the CEN/TC 350 – Sustainability of construction works.

One of the current activities of CMM is Technical Training addressed to professionals connected to Steel construction, civil engineer and students of civil engineering, having launched in 2011 a new modality of technical training, of mid-term and long-term duration. In this context, CMM in partnership with the Programme SUSCOS – Sustainable Steel Construction has developed the training course “Sustainable Construction”.

This course was given in English by teachers of different institutions and had an approach based on real situations. About 50% of the participants in the course were from other countries such as South Africa, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Finland, Italy, Norway, Serbia and Sweden.
