Architecture and urbanism

Who we are

“We aim to develop integrated proposals in which the presence of the architectural object, as an element of a whole, coexists with the urban space, creating qualitative links with societies”

– Miguel Saraiva

The studio’s history is rooted in that of its founder, Miguel Saraiva, CEO and conceptual responsible for each project. His passion for architectural design was combined with a fearless vision that would allow him to elevate a small, recently formed studio into a corporate structure capable of positioning itself across borders and establishing itself as an author’s studio on an international scale. With its creative hub anchored in Lisbon, where more than a hundred of its employees are concentrated, S+A stands out for its ability to open up to the world, adaptability to new markets and resilience to the challenges that a constantly changing society inspires. With companies spread across 9 countries, S+A currently stands out for marking several international landscapes.

We are proud to belong to a group with a clear vision regarding the role it plays in society. The awareness that architecture and construction imply increased attention to the environmental issues that are pressing today, particularly with regard to the fight against climate change, leads us to accept sustainability as a central value of our projects.
Our activity reflects a growing offer of sustainable projects, characterized by a strong component of passive architecture and several other sustainability services. This team is dedicated to capitalizing on sustainability and increasing the group’s portfolio in this segment, offering innovative solutions for construction projects, urban built environments and eco-materials.

It is with this objective that we promote appropriate solutions to the challenge of climate change, namely those that include zero energy buildings or those designated as circular economies or smart cities, capable of designing measures that take into account comfort and well-being, ecology, materials, water and energy reserves.

Sustainability in buildings

Our objective is to define strategies that consider all areas of building sustainability, improving its overall environmental performance, without neglecting the quality and comfort of its users. Bioclimatic planning and principles are the basis of these strategies and sustainable construction certification systems such as LEED and BREEAM are examples of some of the systems used to promote sustainability and differentiation in new, rehabilitated or existing buildings, at national level. and international. Dynamic simulations are another of the tools we use that allow us to evaluate and define the most appropriate solutions for the issues of energy efficiency, renewable energy, thermal comfort, ventilation and natural lighting.
