SerQ

It aims to tackle the constant challenges of the value chain of forest products, with a focus on the promotion of wood in construction, creating a strong link between forest and construction with wood- based products, always following the principles of sustainability.

SerQ is organized in 3 areas:

In the area of research and development, SerQ has a laboratory equipped to perform laboratory tests to support the wood-based products industry. T hese tests may arise from collaborations of R&D projects or by direct requests from companies as a service provision. In addition, SerQ also has the resources and knowledge necessary for the validation of these products in the areas of sustainability, by conducting life cycle studies, important for obtaining Environmental Product Declarations. SerQ is positioned in wood construction works as a support entity for the preparation, design, monitoring and supervision of construction works; and reception, characterization and monitoring of wood products.

SerQ also has a creative area for product design, the FABLAB. Here the wood products are combined with the creative ideas of any user that this space can have. For the realization and conception of design ideas, SerQ has 3D prototyping machines and software, CNC machining and laser engraving. SerQ assumes a creative space, where the only limits are the users’ creativity.

Finally, SerQ has an area for incubation of start-up companies, based in forestry as well as in more technological areas.

SerQ currently has several academic and educational partners, as well as other associations and public entities.
