The 1st of June is National Cork Oak Tree and Cork Day!

A symbol of Portugal’s environmental and economic identity, the cork oak is much more than a tree – it’s a true ally of sustainability. Since 2011, it has been officially recognised as Portugal’s National Tree!

Sustainably harvested without damaging the tree, cork is a 100% natural, recyclable and renewable resource. Portugal is the world’s leading producer of cork and its applications are countless!

In construction, for example, cork is used as thermal and acoustic insulation, in wall and floor coverings, among other innovative structural solutions. As well as being light and resistant, it improves the energy performance of buildings and reduces their carbon footprint, thanks to its natural ability to retain CO₂. As well as preserving biodiversity, cork oak forests protect the soil and help mitigate the effects of climate change.

On this day, Cluster Habitat Sustentável reinforces its commitment to the valorisation of cork and encourages its intelligent and innovative use.
Meet the Cluster members who integrate and adopt cork in their products and solutions!
