In the market since 1959, headquartered in Meirinhas, Pombal, Umbelino Monteiro is the first Portuguese manufacturer of ceramic tiles certified with the environmental management system (NP EN ISO 14001) and received the award for “Good Environmental and Energy Practices,” promoted by AEP – the Business Association of Portugal.
The award was presented on January 26, 2012, during the closing session of the “Benchmarking A+E” project, at the AEP headquarters. The award was handed to the General Director of Umbelino Monteiro, Teresa Monteiro, by the Secretary of State for the Environment and Spatial Planning, Pedro Afonso de Paulo.
Umbelino Monteiro’s application was recognized by the Jury as a Case of Excellence in promoting Good Practices and Environmental Management.
Quality and Environmental Protection are strategic priorities for the company, and participation in this initiative aims to identify, recognize, and share good environmental practices that have resulted in waste reduction and the rational and efficient use of natural resource energy. The good practices are included in the book published by AEP, “Cases of Excellence in Environmental Practices and Energy Efficiency and Rationalization in Portuguese Companies,” also available at www.umbelino.pt.
